Sibling Field Session

I have found that field sessions are timeless throughout the year and are one of the best locations to have a photography session. There’s something magical about capturing your family’s story amidst nature’s backdrop. From Parkersburg to Marietta, we have many to choose from but my favorite spot is my field at Fresh Pickens Farm – a little gem only my clients get to utilize! Right now, the stage is set for truly enchanting field sessions. With the season changing, the palette of nature is shifting, adding vibrant colors that make your photos pop.

Featured Sibling Session

I had the pleasure of capturing Sawyer’s radiant new smile post-braces, courtesy of Eckles Orthodontics; they have offices in both Parkersburg, WV and Marietta, OH.  We have worked them over the past year, from braces to a retainer, and the experience has been absolutely wonderful.  In celebration of Sawyer’s new smile, we decided to do a quick portrait session out in the fields, and of course, his adorable little sister Haven (my constant sidekick!) tagged along. What was initially planned as a solo session turned into an impromptu sibling shoot. And boy, did we get some heartwarming shots!  It was also the perfect time to showcase how incredible field photography sessions are.

Planning a Field Photography Session

One of the key aspects of planning any photography session is choosing the right location. In our case, I had this particular field in mind with its tall white flowers providing the perfect contrast to Sawyer’s dark attire. The depth and layers created by my 70-200mm lens gave the images a captivating appeal.

So, how can you plan the perfect field photography session? Here are a few tips:

Choose Your Session Location

Choosing the right location is crucial when capturing photographs. It sets the tone and adds depth to your images. Whether it’s a vibrant field adorned with a variety of wildflowers or a serene setting blanketed in freshly fallen snow, the perfect location can truly transform your family portraits. If you find yourself in the vicinity of Parkersburg or Marietta, you’re in luck, as these places offer an abundance of picturesque spots that are bound to make your photos stand out. So, next time you plan a photoshoot, consider the beauty and diversity that these locations have to offer.

Consider the Season

Every season brings a unique color palette and mood, making it an ideal time to capture mesmerizing photos. In the fall, the warm hues create a cozy and inviting atmosphere, while spring offers a burst of fresh greens that symbolize renewal and growth. Summer brings vibrant and lively tones that reflect energy and joy, while winter brings a serene and tranquil ambiance with its cool and crisp colors. From capturing the fiery shades of autumn leaves to immersing in the blossoming landscapes of spring, each season adds its distinctive charm to your images.  Knowing what the season’s palette provides also helps you choose your wardrobe for your session.

Dress Appropriately for Your Photoshoot

When planning what to wear, consider the location and season in order to make the most of your field session. Opt for clothing that compliments the natural setting, and choose weather-appropriate attire that prioritizes comfort. It’s also important to think about the colors you wear. In natural settings, solid colors tend to stand out more than prints. Select colors that will beautifully match the season, and consider incorporating neutral and natural shades, as they work well anywhere.. By keeping these factors in mind, you’ll ensure that your outfit is both suitable for the occasion and visually appealing.

Pick the Best Time for Your Photography Session

When you’re having a field photography session, timing becomes crucial in capturing unique and exceptional shots. One of my favorite approaches is scheduling photo sessions during the ‘golden hour,’ which is right before sunset. This magical period casts a soft, diffused light that adds a dreamy and enchanting ambiance to the images. However, if you require an earlier session, don’t worry! I can assist you in discovering a location that offers naturally filtered light, allowing you to achieve a similar effect. By strategically planning your field sessions and utilizing the best lighting conditions, your photos are more likely to stand out and captivate viewers. So, let’s optimize your photography experience and create stunning visuals that leave a lasting impression!

Enjoy Your Session

During photography sessions with families, it is important to remember to enjoy the moment. Genuine emotions and authentic smiles contribute to creating the most beautiful photographs that will be cherished forever. As a photographer, I believe in capturing moments through a combination of posed and candid shots. This approach allows me to perfectly preserve the important details, ensuring that they are forever captured in images that will be cherished for a lifetime.

Field sessions are a great way to capture your family’s story against the canvas of nature. With a bit of planning and these tips in mind, you’re all set to create some unforgettable memories. So, why wait? Schedule your session today and let’s capture the magic together!
