For many couples, especially those in long-term relationships, it can be hard to find creative ways to celebrate special moments. A couples photography session is a unique way to commemorate big milestones like anniversaries and capture your relationship’s evolution over time. In this featured session, I got the opportunity to capture the celebration of this Parkersburg, WV couple’s 50th ANNIVERSARY! I am going to share with you some reasons why you should consider having a couples photography session, as well as some tips to keep in mind when planning.
Why You Should Have a Couples Photography Session
Having professional photos taken of the two of you together is an amazing way to document your journey and preserve special moments in time. It’s an excellent opportunity for you to take a break from everyday life and just enjoy each other’s company — something that can be hard to do with work and family obligations constantly tugging at us. It also gives you beautiful photos that will remind you of all the love between the two of you for years to come.

Choose a Location
The first step in planning your anniversary photo shoot is choosing the right location. It should be meaningful to you as a couple and reflect your style and personality. If you’re looking for classic elegance, consider an outdoor garden or park. For something more rustic, try an old barn or historic building. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, head out into nature for some stunning landscape shots! One of my favorite things to do is help scout and choose locations. I have been in the Parkersburg area my whole life and I know tons of hidden gems (like my farm) to do our sessions at. Pick Out Your Attire
What should you wear for your couples anniversary session? You can choose traditional formal wear—classic black tuxedos or evening gowns—for a timeless look. Or pick out coordinating outfits that express who you are today—think bright colors and whimsical prints! Don’t forget accessories like jewelry, ties, hats, or shoes that can add extra flair to your photos. Finally, make sure whatever clothes you select are comfortable and make it easy to move around during the session so that you can get natural-looking shots of both of you interacting together. Another way I can help you through this planning process is with clothes! Often time, my clients will send me pictures of their planned outfits and I can help the with any adjustments or even help find a location that will really make those fine details pop.
Get Ready for Your Big Day
Now it’s time to get ready for the big day! Make sure both of you get plenty of rest the night before so that you look refreshed and alert in front of the camera. Treat yourself to some pampering before leaving home—you deserve it! Finally, be prepared to relax and have fun! This is an exciting milestone in your lives together as a couple; enjoy yourselves while creating lasting memories through photography!

Featured Couples Session
This is what 50 years of love and devotion look like. These two love birds celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer and came to me to document the amazing milestone. The two had just returned from an exciting Harley Davidson motorcycle convention and were just so full of energy and fun. I asked them both what the secret to fifty years of marriage was and they both agreed that you have to grow with each other, as the seasons and life change you have to grow with your partner through all the different stages. We had this session at my house – one of my favorite locations near Parkersburg, WV! It is a hidden gem that you can only get when you have a session with me.
