This is the story of how we told Nathan’s parents that we were pregnant. When you have been trying for as long as we were before we finally got our big news, most of your close friends and family already know that you are trying. This can make surprising them with the good news a little more difficult, because if you just invited everyone over for dinner, they may get a little suspicious. This weekend Wes and Tara were going out of town to celebrate Valentines’ day in a romantic cabin. We had the kids all day Friday, and then Marvin and Jeanie would be picking them up Friday evening to spend the night and next couple of days with them. Since they were already coming over for dinner, we decided it would be a good time to spring the good news on them.
Nathan suggested we spell out the message in pepperoni on one of our homemade pizzas. The original plan was to spell “We’re Pregnant” but as you can see below, there just wasn’t room. I had even bought the mini pepperonis to make it easier, but there just wasn’t room.
Here’s what it looked like before I cooked it.
I made three different pizzas that night, so I took the first two out and then with my hands full asked Jeanie if she would grab the last one for me. She could immediately tell it said something, but it took her a few seconds to figure out each letter. Of course, when she did screaming and crying ensued. Marvin quickly came over and joined in the congratulating.
Just one more fun way we decided to share the news… If I had to do it over again, I would have put two crusts together so I could have made the pizza a longer rectangle, and actually spelled out PREGNANT on one line. But again, I was watching a 4 year old, a 2 year old and a 1 year old while trying to make dinner – let alone spell fancy things in the toppings.
