Established in 1921, O’Bleness Hospital has a rich history of serving the Athens community and surrounding areas. Originally known as Sheltering Arms Hospital, it began as a two-room maternity ward in a private home and expanded over the decades into a comprehensive medical and surgical facility. In 1970, the hospital moved to its current location and was renamed in honor of Charles G. O’Bleness, a local banker and major benefactor. In 2014, it became part of the OhioHealth system, enhancing its services and resources.
