Race Day

Uncategorized

Well… today was the day! Overall I think everything went pretty well. I finished the half marathon in 2 hours 6 minutes and 42 seconds – a 9:40 pace.

Kyla and I got there in plenty of time, and we were both pretty pumped for the race.

Several people told us to make sure we got a good spot at the starting line, so we didn’t get boxed in. Even though I’m pretty sure your shoe timer doesn’t start counting until you actual cross the starting line, we wanted to make sure we were somewhat close to the start. After taking some pictures under the banner we kind of just hung out until the beginning of the race. We were about 15 feet or so back from the starting line, so we just figured all of the faster runners would make their way in front of us. As it turns out, they didn’t. You can see in the picture below that we were practically right behind the Kenyans. Or I should say we were just behind the “elite” runners – which had special yellow tags.

The guys were on their motorcycles and rode around town to get pictures of us at different stops along the course. Here were are mile 4 still quite excited and full of energy…

I actually felt pretty good at the finish. I hit a wall during mile 10/11, and my back was killing me, but I felt like I finished pretty strong. Our original goal was to be under two hours, but I’m happy with how I finished.

Nathan did an awesome job at capturing pictures during the whole race. They met up with us at five different places along the course. I think I have about 150 pictures from throughout the day!

Here’s one final picture of the four of us after the race. I’m thinking this one might need to find a place on our wall.
